Scholarships

Students who have earned a master’s degree from Lander University and wish to seek a second master’s degree may receive a scholarship equivalent to the full cost of tuition for the final two courses of the second master’s degree.

To be eligible for the LU Second Master’s Degree Scholarship, students must:

• Have earned their 1st master’s degree from Lander
• Be in good standing with the university and have no financial holds on their account

Complete the application before the start of their final two courses. (not at the start of the program).

Available to South Carolina residents who enroll full-time and meet two of the three following criteria:

• Have a final high school cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on the Uniform Grading Scale; or
• Have an SAT score of 1,100 (ACT of 22); or
• Rank in the top 30 percent of the student’s high school graduating class;

Annual renewal, transfer and continuing student eligibility require the student to earn at least 30 semester hours for each year of attendance and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

$5,000 per year

Must meet renewal criteria for the LIFE Scholarship (earn an average of 30 hours each year with at least a 3.0 GPA). Available beginning sophomore year and renewable for up to two additional years.

Awarded to entering South Carolina resident freshmen who have a final high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on the Uniform Grading Scale.

The HOPE Scholarship is not renewable, but students who earn a 3.0 GPA and 30 hours in the freshman year are eligible to receive the LIFE Scholarship in the second year.

$2,800 for the first year only

The recipients are selected by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. To be considered for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

• Be a South Carolina resident; and
• Have a minimum SAT of 1,200 (or ACT of 25); and
• Have a minimum grade point average of 3.50; and
• Rank in the top 6 percent of the student’s high school graduating class at the end of either the sophomore or the junior year; and
• Submit an application by the Dec. deadline of the senior year (visit www.che.sc.gov for deadline date each year). Applications are available from your high school.
• For renewal, students must have a 3.0 Lander GPA (transfer courses do NOT impact the LU GPA) and 30 credit hours EACH academic year (Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment credits do NOT count).  Transfer hours may be used during the same academic year toward the 30 hour requirement even though they do not affect the GPA.

$6,700 per year for freshmen

$7,500 per year for upperclassmen

Must meet renewal criteria for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship (earn 30 hours each year with at least a 3.0 Lander GPA). Available beginning sophomore year and renewable for up to two additional years.

STEM Enhancement Eligibility

General Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship Enhancements:

To qualify for the LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Enhancement, students must:

• Be a recipient of the LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship.
• Be enrolled as a full-time*, degree-seeking student in a CHE-approved program at an eligible four-year institution in South Carolina. (A list of approved majors by institution is available on the Commission’s website.)
  *Or an approved reduced course load through the Office of Accessibility/Disability services.

In addition to the general eligibility criteria listed above, STEM Enhancement students must:

• Earn 14 credit hours of approved STEM coursework before the start of their second academic year (based on initial college enrollment).
• Students can use AP, IB, CLEP, Exempt, and Dual Enrollment credit hours to meet the 14 credit-hour requirement (if applicable).

Education Enhancement Eligibility

In addition to the general eligibility criteria, education enhancement students must:

• Sign a contractual agreement, committing to either:
  • Work in a South Carolina public school for each year they receive the enhancement, or
  • Repay the funds received if they do not fulfill the service requirement.
• Obtain teacher certification to qualify for scholarship forgiveness.

$7,500 Palmetto Fellows Scholarship + $2,500 Enhancement

Provides fellowships for high school seniors who have exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to their schools and communities, and a desire to teach in South Carolina schools. A fellow agrees to teach in South Carolina one year for every year he/she receives the fellowship. Interested high school students must apply no later than Dec. 1 of their senior year. $5,700 for tuition and board and $300 for summer enrichment programs administered by the South Carolina Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement (CERRA).

The scholarship is sponsored by Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants. This is a $1000 scholarship.

High School Junior and Seniors may apply as well as currently enrolled undergraduate students. Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 30. Application Deadline June 19.

The American Chemical Society sponsors scholarship programs for qualified minority applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering, and students seeking a two-year degree in chemical technology. The programs are designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences and chemical technology. The goal of these scholarship programs is to aid in building an awareness of the value and the rewards associated with careers in science and to assist students in acquiring the skills and credentials needed for success in these areas.

The amount of each individual award will depend upon the availability of funding, the number of scholarships awarded, and evidence of financial need. Scholarships will be given up to a maximum of $5,000 per year. The awards in the ACS Scholars Program, as well as those in the co-sponsored programs are renewable.

Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students provides competitive awards to outstanding full time undergraduate minority students at regionally accredited institutions to encourage their: selection of accounting as a major, entry into the profession and ultimately achieving the CPA designation. For purposes of this program, the AICPA defines minority students as those of Black, Native American, Pacific Island races, or of Hispanic ethnic origin. All applicants must be U.S. citizens. The maximum award is $5,000.

To be eligible for a minority undergraduate scholarship, applicants must:

• be a declared accounting major (this must be indicated on your transcript) with an overall and accounting grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.3;
• have satisfactorily completed at least 30 semester hours, or 45 quarter hours, or equivalent college work, including at least six semester hours (or equivalent) in accounting; and
• be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours or equivalent) at an accredited institution.

The Archibald Rutledge Scholarship encourages and recognizes academic and artistic excellence. Students compete for scholarships in creative writing, drama, music, and visual arts.

Awards: One-time scholarship - approximately $4,000.

Eligibility: Twelfth-grade students enrolled in a South Carolina public school and planning to attend a state college or university are eligible to participate in the scholarship competition. Jointly produced compositions are not eligible. Students receiving the scholarships must be United States citizens who have attended the state’s public schools for the past two consecutive years. High school student enrollment determines the number of entries a school can enter in each discipline area.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Nursing students who plan to enter a component of the US Army and are enrolled 
   in a program not funded by the US Army.
2. Nursing students who have previously served in a component of the US Army.
3. Army Nurse Corps officers in a component of the US Army enrolled in a nursing 
   or other eligible program not funded by the US Army.
4. Army enlisted soldiers in a component of the US Army enrolled in a nursing 
   program not funded by the US Army.
5. Nursing students whose parent(s) and/or spouse are or have served in a component of the US Army.

General Info: Scholarships are for $3000 per selected student. There is not a military service requirement for this scholarship. ROTC scholarship recipients are not eligible. Applications can be found at e-anca.org. Application Deadline April 1.

Awards: ASCO Numatics will award two $5000 scholarships to graduate or undergraduate engineering students pursuing careers in manufacturing, processing, or other industrial automation related disciplines. Additionally they will make a $1000 grant to the engineering departments of the colleges in which the winners are enrolled.

Eligibility: Must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program in engineering, instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, or automation discipline at an accredited US educational institution for the current academic year. You must have completed your sophomore years of your bachelor's degree at the time of application. You must have at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be a US citizen or legal US resident.

All student athletes are eligible to participate in this scholarship program regardless of the sport they are participating in. The student must be a High School Senior or attending a college or university. Applicants must write an essay based on a given topic. The award amount is $500. C.G. Fuller Foundation scholarship is available to SC residents attending a SC college or university. The scholarship is available to current high school seniors entering the first year of college. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA, at least 1100 on the SAT, and have a family income under $60,000. Deadline: April 1. The Charlotte Blackwell Memorial Nursing Scholarship program has been established in memory of Charlotte Blackwell, a beloved Self Regional nurse. The Charlotte Blackwell Memorial Nursing Scholarship will award a scholarship(s) annually to individuals planning to enroll in a certified nursing program at either Lander University or Piedmont Technical College or to a practicing nurse who wishes to advance his or her professional skills at those schools.

The value of the scholarship is $1,000 and the number of scholarships given each year will be determined based on available funding at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

Since 1989, the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity has sponsored the Prize in Ethics Contest. The annual competition is intended to challenge undergraduate juniors and seniors in colleges and universities across the United States and Canada to analyze ethical questions and concerns facing them in today's complex society. All students are encouraged to write thought-provoking, personal essays.

Eligibility:

• Must be a registered undergraduate, full-time junior or senior at an accredited college or university in the US or Canada.
• Essays must be 3000-4000 words, in which students are encouraged to raise questions, single out issues, and identify dilemmas. The essay may take the form of an analysis that is biographical, historical, literary, philosophical, sociological, or theological. Essays may be written in formal or informal voice, but most importantly, and individual voice should be represented within the essay. Essays must be the original, unpublished work of the student and only one essay per student per contest year may be submitted.
• Students must complete a Contest Entry Form along with their Faculty Sponsor. Any interested professor may act as a Faculty Sponsor and endorse the quality and authenticity of the student's essay.
• In addition, students must include a letter from the Registrar verifying their full-time enrollment for the Fall semester.

Casey Family Programs and Foster Care to Success are pleased to announce that applications for college scholarships for students from foster care are now available for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Casey Family Scholars Program will award approximately 75 new scholarships for undergraduate study and career/technical training at accredited institutions and programs. A limited number of graduate school scholarships will also be awarded. Scholarships include support services.

Undergraduate scholarships are awarded based on a combination of merit and need, and funding levels are determined based on cost of attendance and other resources. Graduate scholarships are merit-based and provide $10,000 for post-graduate study in any field. Graduate scholarships are renewable for one year.

Foundation For The Carolinas manages numerous scholarship funds that provide grants to help students achieve their educational goals. Grants are available for students attending public and private institutions at graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as for private K-12 schools.

Foundation For The Carolinas currently administers 108 scholarship programs. In 2014 the Foundation awarded more than $1.7 million in scholarships to nearly 800 students. The Greenwood Housing Authority is accepting applications for the Carolinas Council of Housing, Redevelopment, & Codes Officials (CCHRCO) and South Eastern Regional Council (SERC) Scholarship Program. These scholarships are open to any member of a household who resides in Public Housing or under the Section-8 program and is pursuing a higher education.

The Hispanic College Fund is a nationwide, non-profit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of Hispanic leaders. HCF accomplishes its mission by awarding scholarships to talented undergraduate students. HCF offers scholarship opportunities to students pursuing majors in business, science, and technology.

The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) will award up to $175,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and advanced degree students. The Institute's budget provides $175,000 in financial aid for students through two scholarship programs. IMA student members may be eligible for scholarship awards of up to $5,000. The IMA diversity program offers scholarship opportunities to non-member minority students. Student financial aid administrators can encourage accounting, finance, and information technology students to apply for an IMA scholarship award by obtaining an application at www.imanet.org. The application, located at the website administration building, describes the various types of scholarship awards, eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and the application process.

The Margaret A. Patrick & W. Don Welch International Trade Scholarship

An applicant must be a rising college junior or senior with a minimum 3.2 GPA and must meet one of the following criteria:

1. Be enrolled in a SC college or university
2. A SC resident attending any college or university
3. a student enrolled in a college or university in North Carolina

The selection and ranking criteria are:

1. Proven interest or experience in international trade or related area, to include work or volunteer experience
2. Current academic standing and performance

The J. E. Sirrine Scholarship Program was established through the generosity of the late Joseph Emory Sirrine. Mr. Sirrine left the bulk of his estate as a perpetual memorial to his father and mother to be used to assist deserving graduates of Greenville County public high schools or Greenville County charter high schools.

Students may apply for a $2,000 Sirrine Scholarship by visiting the Sirrine Scholarship Application website.

Sirrine Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four years for undergraduate study at a two- or four-year institution. Sirrine Scholarships are renewable for a maximum of three (3) years, provided the student maintains satisfactory progress toward the completion of his/her program of studies. Renewals are not automatic; the student must reapply each year.

Since the first scholarships were awarded by Governor James F. Byrnes in 1949, more than 985 young South Carolinians have been assisted in obtaining a college education.

1. All applicants must have lost one or both parents by death.

3. It is important that excellence in character, ability and enterprise be shown to indicate that the individual will make worthwhile contributions to society.
4. Applicants must plan to pursue a bachelor's degree as scholarships cannot be used at technical schools or for associate degrees.

Beginning in 1985-86, Easter Seals of South Carolina began offering Jim and Mary Pearce Scholarships from its Endowment Fund. The purpose of these scholarships is to enable deserving students who are disabled (certifiable mobility impairment) to complete their college education and become productive citizens.

Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited two- or four-year institution in South Carolina. Preference will be given to South Carolina residents. Preference will be given to students carrying at least 9 hours and who are making satisfactory academic progress toward graduation. For purposes of these scholarships, disabled students are defined as those having some type of significant and medically certified mobility impairment. A statement from the physician will be required and must be dated within the past year. Annual scholarships will generally not exceed $1000. Financial need must be demonstrated by completion of the FAFSA.

This scholarship program is established to encourage more minorities to enter the teaching profession and awards two scholarships every year. $2000 goes to a student in their final year including student teaching. $1000 goes to a student who is a career changer entering the field of education. Students must provide a letter from the Dean of Education or designated representative, a letter of character reference and a transcript separately no later than the April 15th application deadline.

General Criteria:

• Have an overall 3.0 GPA
• Be a High School graduate or the equivalent
• Submit a letter from the Dean of Education that the applicant has attained at least Junior status and met the required grade point average at the time of application for admittance into the teacher education program

American Association of School Personnel Administrators Leon Bradley Scholarship Program

The Lucile Parrish Ward Veterans Award and is being given by the National Federation of Music Clubs. Available to any veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States and whose service in the military caused a delay in the pursuit of a music career. The amount of the award is $2,000. Those eligible should have a high school diploma or GED. Also, applicant must have been accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in pursuit of an undergraduate degree, Masters Degree or Doctoral degree in the field of music.

The purpose of this award is to provide an annual scholarship to a rising sophomore, junior or senior S.C. resident who is enrolled in a four-year SC college or university and majoring in a business related field. A minimum GPA of 3.0 has been established. The amount of the annual scholarship is set by the Scholarship Committee and is presently $1000. Application deadline is March 9th. The NFB has a large and prestigious scholarship program whose awards are made solely to persons who are legally blind.

The NIAF awards scholarships and grants to outstanding students for use during the following academic year. The awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and divided between two groups of students:

Category I: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Area of study: open.

Category II: Students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies, or a related field. Students must demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements.

Scholarships range from $2000 to $5000.

Each year, the NSF offers graduate research fellowships in a variety of areas. Deadline for application is in the first week of November, annually. For more information, please visit the NSF website.

Each year, the NPSC offers graduate doctoral fellowships in a variety of science and engineering areas. Deadline for application is November 5th, annually. Females and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Parda’s Scholarship Program was established in 2006 to honor students who have shown scholastic excellence and leadership in their schools and communities. Parda is proud of our students and has provided $100,000 in scholarships to past recipients who have not only shown excellent scholastic achievement, but also embody the credit union philosophy of people helping people through their community work. This year, we are awarding 3 scholarships for our annual contest:

1st place: $2,500

2nd place: $1,500

3rd place: $1,000

Scholarship Requirements:

1. Membership in Parda Credit Union is not required at the time of scholarship application. However, if you are selected you must become a member of Parda Credit Union before your scholarship is awarded.
2. Applicants must submit an essay answer to one of the proposed questions in 1,000 words or less.
3. Applicants must currently be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college, community college, university, U.S. trade or vocational school.
4. Applicants must demonstrate participation in service to their school and/or community.
5. Previous recipients and applicants are eligible to apply again if they still meet the eligibility criteria.

Qualifications:

• South Carolina Resident.
• Must be a Student majoring in Accounting or taxation at a South Carolina 2 or 4 year college.
• Must be either a rising senior at a 4 year college /university or a rising second year student leading to an Associates Degree in Accounting at a 2 year college or technical college.
• Average GPA no less than 3.0 overall (on a 4.0 scale).
• Average GPA in accounting no less than 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

Applications must be received complete with all attachments by May 15 in order to be considered. Scholarships will be awarded in June for the Fall Semester. A check will be mailed to you, payable to your school, before September 1st. Recipients will be invited to attend the June luncheon of the South Carolina Tax Council, which will be held during the Summer Seminar. Amounts of scholarships range from $500 to $1,000. The total amount to be awarded each year is decided by the SCTC Board of Directors and depends upon the number of qualified applicants. Application available at www.sctaxcouncil.org

The National Federation of Music Clubs competition for the Stillman-Kelley Award will be held. The audition is open to pianists or orchestral instrumentalists. The South Carolina winner will receive the Cornelia Freeman Award of $200 and will submit a tape to the National Competition. The National first place award is $1,000; second place is $500 and separate Thelma Byrum award in piano is $300.Entrants must be US citizens and not have reached the 17th birthday be March 1. A fifteen - twenty minute program should be prepared from memory and orchestral instrumentalists must provide their own accompanists.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of five scholarships valued up to forty thousand dollars each. Each scholarship would award a maximum of $10,000 annually to pay for tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board. In order to be eligible, applicants must be the children of a parent who has died from breast cancer, live in Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Laurens, Greenville, Greenwood, Pickens, Oconee, McCormick, Spartanburg or Union county, exhibit financial need, and plan to attend a state-supported college in their state of residence. The mission of the Komen Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through research, education, screening, and treatment. The Foundation believes that breast cancer affects not only the individual. This Award is one way we recognize that affect and address the resulting needs.

The competition will be conducted through Komen Headquarters located in Dallas, Texas. The Upstate South Carolina Affiliate of the Komen Foundation will select a candidate from among applicants for the scholarship in the above stated service area. WCFIBER is excited to provide high school seniors with two college scholarship opportunities. Submit the online application to apply for both the WCFIBER & FRS Scholarships. The FRS Scholarships are one-time scholarships that are various amounts based on the awarded scholarship. The WCTEL Scholarship is $8,000 total to be dispersed as $2,000/year for 4 consecutive years.
