Post Office

The mission of the Lander University Post Office is to provide postal solutions in the most friendly and efficient manner possible. Students living on campus can find their virtual mailbox at the LU Post Office, as well as our service window for picking up letters and packages. In addition to administering the receipt and distribution of all USPS letters and packages, we also process all DHL packages, interdepartmental mail, and UPS and FedEx packages for students. Furthermore, we manage all outgoing mail, including prepaid shipments and large bulk mailings.

We realize that we are a vital link between the Bearcat campus and the rest of the world. Whether we are receiving a package of cookies for a first-year student, or coordinating with Admissions to send out a batch of acceptance packets, we are committed to providing the highest level of care and service to our Bearcat community.

    Postage Saving Tips:
    • Screen outgoing mailing lists for unnecessary names, duplicates, and incomplete addresses.
    • Fold multipage material and enclose it in a #10 envelope to save the extra charge of sending a “flat” mail piece.
    • Do not over-insure; the vendor will pay only the actual value of an item, not the declared value.
    • Combine mailings to the same location into one large envelope.
    • Use Bulk Rate mail when mailing more than 500 pieces of identical weight and contents.
    • Plan for large mailings! Allowing 2-3 extra days for delivery can provide big savings for the university (for example a small 5,000-piece mailing would cost only $750 as a bulk mailing, whereas the same mailing would cost $2,500 presort-first class and $2,900 for regular first class).
    • Skip the mailed Return Receipt with Certified mailings and obtain an electronic signature whenever possible. This costs less and still provides a return receipt and notice of delivery to the sender.
    • Use Business Reply envelopes provided by vendors rather than university envelopes and postage.
    • Fax or e-mail information when time is critical instead of using Express Mail or overnight services.
    • Consider sending items first-class or priority instead of overnight, as they may still meet your time service standards.
    • Use these addressing tips for faster delivery of your mail: type or use a laser printer (not handwritten), use black ink, and place the address in the middle of a white envelope. Always use the ZIP + 4 code if known to receive faster processing.

Service Window

Located in the Genesis Building, the LU Post Office serves the shipping needs of faculty, staff, and students. We provide all mailing services to the University, including mail sorting and distribution, intermediary support for incoming and outgoing packages, interdepartmental mail services, mailing supplies, project packaging, and bulk mailings. Our experienced staff is available to discuss your mail needs and guide you through every step of the process to ensure you have the highest level of success.

To pick up mail and/or packages please scan the barcode on your Lander student ID at the pickup kiosk. This will display all items you have at the LU Post Office. Once you have received your items simply press pick up at the bottom of the screen. Mail and packages are delivered at various times throughout the day and can even show delivered before they arrive at the campus Post Office. Using the latest technology, we track each package to ensure an appropriate chain of custody, so please wait for the notification email from us to enhance efficiency.

The LU Post Office accepts cash only.

Department Services

It is important that all incoming mail and packages include the recipient's name and department to ensure the delivery goes to the appropriate recipient. Please keep in mind that, per recommendation by the USPS and according to state guidelines, the services provided by the LU Post Office are not for personal use.

All outgoing mail must have a daily mail processing form attached. Mail received by 12:30 (excluding larger mailings) will go out the same day. If you need same-day shipping after mail pickup or have a certified mail piece, we can help prepare these items but someone from your department must take them to the local USPS facility for acceptance.

Mail Services personnel are trained, experienced, and conversant with various mailing requirements and regulations. The staff is alert to all changes in mail rates and continuously reviews the various classes of mail sent from the university to ensure that the lowest rates are used and that all possible savings are achieved for the University.

Mail Forwarding

Log into MyLander. Use the first part of your email address as the username and your email password. For example, if your email address is jdoe@lander.edu you would use jdoe as your username.

Once logged into MyLander:

  • Click the Academic Serviceslink on the left side of the page
  • Under Banner Self-Services click Personal Information
  • Click View/Update Addresses and Phones

If you need to change your address, click the Update Addresses and Phones link at the bottom of the page and follow on-screen instructions.

The United States Post Office will not process a change of address from Lander – it is your responsibility to notify all senders of your new address. The LU Post Office will forward permitted items for three months from residency inactivation. Items that cannot be forwarded will be returned to the sender.

Address Information

All resident students and campus departments have a virtual campus mailbox (nonresidents should not ship items to campus). Please use your legal name (no nicknames) and include your virtual mailbox number or department name. To obtain your virtual campus mailbox number click the Campus Mailbox Combination link under Bearcat Web Highlights.

You will receive a notification email for letters and packages. Lander University transitioned to a High-Density Folder system, so you no longer need to remember a combination to retrieve your mail from a physical mailbox. However, we do ask that students continue to use their assigned virtual mailbox number and address items as follows:

Your Name
320 Stanley Ave. # xxxx (your box number goes here)
Greenwood, SC 29649

All items received at the LU Post Office are scanned for tracking purposes and an email notification is sent to the recipient’s Lander email address. If an item is not claimed within 7 days a reminder email is sent. After 30 days the item is returned to the sender unclaimed.

Perishable items can only be held for 24-48 hours! Items not claimed within 48 hours, or items that have an odor/are leaking, are disposed of. Lander University is not responsible for these items.
