Our studio degree program rigorously prepares students for a professional creative career and advanced degree in art. You will master studio techniques in different media of choice while developing an individual conceptual voice. Our upper-level BFA students are provided with a personal studio workspace and develop a comprehensive body of work for their Senior Exhibit.

Our BFA majors learn art business skills and professional practices to prepare them for a broad range of career options within the multi-billion dollar creative economy. Lander is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

What Our BFA Looks Like

  • After admission to the University, BFA Visual Art majors begin foundation studies in art in their freshman year;
  • Following their successful completion, sophomore students explore different media in our studio art courses;
  • At the conclusion of the sophomore year, students undergo a BFA Candidacy Review to be admitted to the BFA program;
  • Upperclassmen have a rigorous studio curriculum that focuses on advanced studio techniques and development of their studio direction;
  • Students must meet minimum progress requirements at each level;
  • Upon completion of all program requirements, students will undergo a Final BFA Review

2D Studio Concentration

Our unique BFA program provides students with a foundation in 2D and 3D composition followed by a core of introductory studio classes in a broad range of disciplines. 2D Studio Concentration includes drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and mixed media.

In their upper-level courses, students focus on gaining experience in a concentrated direction to develop a cohesive body of exhibitable artwork.
