Yes. The Writing Center is a free resource available to all students. The Writing Center can be visited as often as you need and at any point during your academic career at Lander. It is never too late to start using this resource to improve your writing skills.

To ensure our tutors can meet your needs at your desired time, appointments are highly recommended. Scheduling an appointment guarantees that you will receive the help you need at your convenience. However, our tutors will take walk-in's if they have no scheduled appointments. If you walk in and no tutors can assist you, they will direct you to make an appointment online for a time that works for both of you.

To make an appointment with the Writing Center go to https://lander.mywconline.com/ and follow the login prompts on the left side of the screen. Use your school email address and password. If this is your first-time using WC Online, follow the prompted steps for setting up your student profile. When you’ve logged in, select “Writing Center” from the “Schedules” drop-down menu at the top left side of the screen. Select any open time slot (the white squares) during a convenient time for you with the tutor of your choice (even though not all our tutors share your degree or major, they are all well trained and equipped to handle any writing problems or concerns you may have). A separate webpage titled “Create New Appointment” will pop up. Make sure to fill this screen out as fully as possible. Click “create appointment” at the bottom of the screen. The system will inform you that you have successfully created an appointment and you can close the pop-up. You’re all set, and we’ll see you soon!

If you have issues logging in to the system, please contact ITS.

When you’ve successfully created an appointment, your time slot will turn yellow. Click on the yellow box. This will reopen your appointment page. Simply scroll to the bottom and click the red “Cancel Appointment” box at the bottom of the screen. The system will inform you that you have successfully cancelled your appointment and you can close the pop-up.

To reschedule an appointment, cancel your original appointment first. Then make a new appointment at your desired time and with your preferred tutor. If you’d like more specific information, please read the “How do I make an appointment” tab above.

To prepare for your appointment at the Writing Center, make sure to bring your work (either a hard copy or on a laptop), the assignment, and the rubric with you. Be ready to explain what you would like to work on during your session. Though it’s not required, it may be useful to bring something to take notes on (either pen & paper or your laptop).
The Writing Center is prepared to help you at any point in the writing process. Whether it’s brainstorming ideas, writing a thesis, formatting and organizing, polishing your final draft, or anything in between, our tutors will help give you the tools you need to be a successful writer. For the best experience, we suggest bringing your work in as early as possible so that you have time to schedule additional appointments if you need them. However, it’s never too late to get a second set of eyes on your assignment.

Peer Tutors

I graduated from Lander University in May 2022 with my Bachelor of Arts in English and a Political Science Minor. Currently, I’m earning my M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning Instructional Technology because I want to pursue a career in the publishing industry when I graduate. As a writer, I really excel at organization and integrating research into essays.

Besides being a student athlete at Lander (I play rugby), I am also a crazy dog mom who loves taking hikes with my Pitbull, Nala.

Hi! My name is Mya, and I am a junior media communications major. I am also minoring in media writing, public relations, and sports media. Some of my writing strengths include editing and drafting.

I also am a dog mom to a dog named Scout. She is a lab/retriever mix and is my best friend!

I am a Junior, Business Administration major with an emphasis in Hospitality Management. I look to graduate in December of 2024 and hope to one day work as an Event Planner and/or Coordinator for one of the many plantations located in beautiful Charleston, SC. In writing, I tend to excel at establishing organization and clarity of purpose, as well as being articulate and well-versed.

Outside of my academic studies, I enjoy spending quality time with my older sisters and spoiling rotten my cat, Danish.

My name is Shea Connelly, and I am a junior finance major. My writing strength is my ability to brainstorm topics and structure them into a good paper. Two fun facts about me are that I am a member of the women's tennis team, and I have a dog named Dudley.
My name is Annette Daniel, and I am a junior at Lander University. My major is business with an emphasis on management marketing and a minor in entrepreneurship. As a writer, my strengths are organization and helping the essay flow. I also enjoy drafting because I like thinking of ideas and ways to make an essay sound better. Outside of student life at Lander, I like to roller skate and dance.
I am a sophomore majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. My writing strengths consist of being able to formulate ideas and integrating those ideas into a well-structured essay. I am on the women’s lacrosse team at Lander and my favorite color is pink.

I am a sophomore in History Secondary Education majoring here at Lander. I am also a part of the Teaching Fellows program and the women’s lacrosse team. As a writer, my strength is in organizing and planning my papers to get as many ideas as I can before I begin writing. Some fun facts about me are that I am from South Carolina, and I have a dog back home that I rescued from the street.

Major: Business Administration with a focus in Finance

Year: Freshmen

Skill: Writing Analysis and Argumentative Papers

Fun Facts: I'm a member of Greek life on campus and an Army veteran.
I am a junior English Professional Writing Major minoring in Business. As a tutor, I feel that I’m most helpful when a student is curious about their grammar, punctuation, and flow. Although I help most with grammar, I also like to help tackle the preemptive brainstorming and organization of a student’s work. When I’m not reading and writing, I love hiking and playing acoustic and bass guitar!
Hi! I’m Kristin and I’m a junior psychology and criminology major. My writing strengths are grammar, punctuation, creating outlines, and APA formatting. Two fun facts about me are that I have a Bassett Hound named Tater and I love to play Skyrim.
