The Art + Design program begins the same for each art student – with foundational studio art classes in drawing, design, and art history that prepare students for the study of art or design at the University level. As a sophomore, students participate in studio classes featuring a broad range of media including ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, and sculpture. This important time of exploration gives students the insight to decide (or confirm) the direction for the remainder of his/her degree program.

On September 5, The Lander Art Gallery at Lander University’s Abney Cultural Center hosted a reception for its current exhibit, "Mujer: Sanctuary," featuring artists Jorge Rojas and Siara Yazmin.

There is a difference between being a tourist and being a traveler. Professor Elizabeth Snipes, who regularly leads study tours for Lander’s Department of Art + Design, wants students to be travelers.
