Webex Calling Overview

Webex Calling is a cloud-based solution with great flexibility and many calling and collaborative features. It is a single application (app) that works across various devices, including your desktop computer, laptop, and cellphone. In fact, in many cases traditional desk phones may not be needed or used as often.

Quick Facts: What do I need to know?

  • Current Cisco desk phone sets/hardware will remain the same.
  • Extensions/Lander phone numbers will remain the same.
  • You will continue to dial the 4-digit extension number for internal calls.
  • You will NOT need to dial 9 for an outside call. Calls will be completed by dialing 10-digits for external calls.
  • You will need to Set Up a New Voicemail PIN (6 digits). You can access settings.webex.com with your Lander email address to reset the PIN, or you can do so by pressing the voice mail button on your desk phone. You will need to use a temporary PIN (which will be displayed in the Announcement Section by logging in to mylander.lander.edu). Once you change the PIN on the phone, you will be prompted to record your outgoing voice message.
  • You will not lose access to saved voicemails on the replaced phone system. However, you are encouraged to review messages prior to the upgrade to have a fresh start.
  • Speed dial shortcuts, except for the LUPD panic button, on your phone set will not carry over to the new system; they can easily be reprogrammed. Instructions can be found at https://servicedesk.lander.edu/solutions/1191316-how-to-set-up-speed-dial-on-your-lander-phone.
  • You will have access to a new unified communication application (Webex App) where calling, messaging, and video conferencing converge into a single collaborative location. ITS will be remotely installing the Webex App on Lander computers during the week of April 8th. You can also download the Webex App from the Apple or Google Stores.
  • Our Cisco partners and ITS will be available to attend to issues that may arise during and after the upgrade. If you encounter calling issues after the upgrade, please enter a ticket at servicedesk@lander.edu. If the issue is urgent (e.g., cannot make or receive calls) please email ITS at Help8234@lander.edu or call the Help Desk at (864) 388-8234.
  • More information on the Webex calling and App solution can be found at www.lander.edu/its/webex.

Unified Communications Technology

  • Unified communications technology allows you to seamlessly collaborate with others regardless of location. You will be able to quickly locate people by accessing an interactive directory, engage in text messaging sessions, and escalate sessions to voice calls or one-on-one video calls if desired.
  • Presence will allow you to see if someone you're trying to contact is available.

Mobility

  • Lander's VoIP system will bring you greater mobility. Hand off calls in progress from your cell phone to desktop phone and back to your cell phone for true mobility (when you originate phone calls from a non-Lander device defined in your profile, the caller ID will appear to be sent from your Lander telephone number).
  • Publish your Lander telephone number and choose which device you answer calls on (cell phone, desk phone, home phone, PC/laptop, or tablet for one-number service).
