As an English major, you develop a heightened awareness of the power of language. Your considerable vocabulary, understanding of style, advanced critical thinking and strengthened verbal capabilities serve you well in a range of fields and have a long-lasting impact on your quality of life and career. While all our majors share some of the same coursework the program offers you three different concentrations for preparing your path beyond graduation.
What sets two equally qualified job candidates apart can be as simple as who has the better communication skills. You get that edge from training experience, developing advanced writing skills and a knowledge base that prepares you for a range of careers. You can intern at local agencies, television and radio stations, and educational institutions. You can also gain hands-on experience through clinicals, service learning projects, tutoring in the Writing Lab and studying abroad.
Creative Writing Concentration
With a focus on narrative and language, the creative writing concentration prepares students for careers ranging from content creation to publishing to video game development. This program explores storytelling from a global and historical perspective and considers how to apply creative methods to a variety of professional fields.
Classes in editing, literature and a customizable range of writing disciplines will help you develop adaptable language skills and teach you the skills and practices necessary to complete long-term writing projects.
