The Bachelor of Science in Accounting prepares students to apply accounting, auditing, tax, analytics, and business principles in public accounting firms, corporations, financial institutions, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and entrepreneurial ventures. Students build a strong business foundation while completing specialized coursework in financial and managerial accounting, taxation, cost accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, data analytics, and an accounting capstone experience.

The program is designed to provide a clear pathway into accounting careers and to support students who plan to pursue graduate study or future CPA licensure. Students interested in CPA licensure should work closely with their academic advisors to plan additional coursework beyond the 120-credit bachelor's degree, since South Carolina CPA licensure requires 150 credit hours of education. The 150-hour requirement does not apply to accounting students who pursue careers that do not require the CPA license.

Students complete professional development coursework throughout the curriculum and gain preparation in spreadsheet analysis, business analytics, accounting systems, ethical decision-making, and communication of financial information.

Lander School of Business graduates will:

  1. Possess the business knowledge necessary for success in their careers.
  2. Communicate effectively in professional settings.
  3. Appreciate ethics, ethical decision-making and the social responsibility of business.
  4. Apply relevant methods and technologies to analyze and solve problems.
  5. Be prepared to succeed in their careers and make a positive impact on society.
