Leadership development is vital to the success and sustainability of each Organization on our campus. Below are the steps that must be completed if you are interested in starting a new organization on campus.
If you should have any questions, don't hesitate to contact the Office of Campus Engagement at campusengagement@lander.edu.
How to Start a New Organization?
Registration of a new group requires the approval of the Department of Campus Engagement. Prior to submitting a Registration Application, please gather the following information:
- Gather members!
- Each student organization requires at least 5 full-time, enrolled students to start the club/org.
- Create a membership roster with their first and last names, Lander email and L number.
- Note: members should be aware that they are subject to grade checks from the Department of Campus Engagement. Each member must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Officers must maintain a 2.5 GPA.
- Add each member to the organization’s Involve page when registering. They must accept the membership invitation within 5 business days.
- Create a Constitution!
- This should include a purpose, outline of officers and their duties, an outlined election process and amendment process.
- Many clubs/orgs find it helpful to include other information, such as a minimum GPA requirement, expectations of members, meeting outlines, membership responsibilities, etc.
- If you would like a sample constitution, please email campusengagement@lander.edu.
- Find an Advisor!
- Each student organization needs a Lander-employed, full-time faculty or staff member to serve as an advisor.
- Add the advisor to the organization’s Involve roster They must accept the invitation within five business days.
- Complete the Registration Application on Involve
- You will use the above information to complete the Organization Registration form on Involve.
- Once the form has been submitted, your organization will be pending approval until a Campus Engagement staff member approves it.
- While Pending
- Your organization can meet no more than 3 times in a university facility.
- Campus Engagement will reserve a space for a maximum of 3 interest meetings before approval. Please email campusengagement@lander.edu to set up these meetings.
- The organization can only meet to organize and plan. They may not host events, invite speakers or host fundraisers.
- The potential organization can market meetings and recruit for membership.
- All marketing materials must be approved by the Department of Campus Engagement. Printed posters must have a stamp of approval before they may be displayed on campus.
