University Singers and Chamber Orchestra to Perform Nov. 16
The community is invited to join Lander’s Chamber Orchestra and University Singers for their third consecutive year of performing together at their annual joint concert on Monday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium on the Lander campus. The event is free and open to the public.
This year’s concert will celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving with music centered on nature, peace and life. The program will feature works by Vivaldi and Beethoven, along with contemporary American composers Aaron Copland and Dan Forrest. Douglass Temples, Lander’s new professor of violin and viola, will perform as a violin soloist. Lander choral alumni will also join University Singers for the concert’s final selection.
About Chamber Orchestra: The Lander University Chamber Orchestra is open to all members of the University community who have a strong background in strings. The ensemble also functions as a community orchestra and is open to all string players in the greater Greenwood area, with members spanning from high school age to retirees. While this group functions primarily as a string orchestra, repertoire selections vary widely, so that percussionists and wind players are often invited to join the group. The Chamber Orchestra performs orchestral music from Baroque to contemporary with concerts given at least once per semester.
About University Singers: University Singers continues a long-standing tradition of choral singing at Lander University, and the men and women of this choir come from a wide variety of majors across the campus and from the larger Greenwood community. The ensemble welcomes beginning and experienced singers who want to be part of a committed community of musical learners. Fast-paced rehearsals focus on great choral music of varying difficulty from the Renaissance to the 21st century.
