Lander Career Fairs Offer Networking Opportunities to Students

Entering the workforce is top of mind for many college students. During a trio of career fairs last week, students at Lander University were able to meet potential employers and explore options for internships and post-graduation employment.

Casey Cline, Lander’s director of workforce and career development, said the career fair is for every student no matter the phase of their career pursuit. Students just starting college can get experience networking and get connections to job shadowing and mentorship, while upperclassmen can land internships or employment.

Riley Andrews, a senior business student with a concentration in healthcare management, said she visited the career fair to begin making connections, explore career options and hand out her resume. Being able to make connections within her chosen field while still in college is beneficial, she said.

On the other side of the table, attending a career fair gives potential employers the opportunity to interact with eager students.

Symone Flagler and Moronda Talley with the South Carolina Department of Social Services said the career fair is useful for their agency because they have offices in every county and value good employees.

“These are very beneficial for students,” Flagler said. “If they’re looking to go right into the workforce, this is where they should be.”
