Lander University Chamber Orchestra to Perform

The community is invited to join the Lander University Chamber Orchestra for their Spring 2026 concert, which will be held Thursday, Apr. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium on Lander’s campus. This concert is free and open to the public.

The Lander University Chamber Orchestra functions as a community orchestra and is open to all members of the University community as well as all string players in the greater Greenwood area, with current members spanning from high school age to retirees. While this group functions primarily as a string orchestra, repertoire selections vary widely – percussionists and wind players are often invited to join the group.

The Chamber Orchestra is under the direction of Amy Blackwood, lecturer of music and collaborative pianist in Lander’s Department of Music. Blackwood teaches music appreciation, serves as the string area coordinator, and works with singers, instrumentalists and the two choral ensembles - the University Singers and Old Main Singers. She earned a Master of Music in Accompanying and Chamber Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Blackwood has spent summers at Interlochen, performed at Carnegie Hall with the National Wind Ensemble, and actively collaborates with members of symphonies in Greenville, Augusta and Charlotte.
