Despite a chilly evening, Lander University’s men’s basketball team received a warm welcome back to campus late Saturday night, March 28.
Lander students, faculty, staff and community members from around Greenwood lined the sidewalk on campus to cheer as the team bus returned from Pittsburgh, after a Friday evening victory over Nova Southeastern.
The national championship-bound team is on a historic run in the NCAA Division II playoffs. This is the first time in program history that Lander’s men’s basketball team has made it to the NCAA Final Four semifinals and only the second time it has made it to the Elite Eight.
Lander is set to play Gannon in the finals on Sunday, April 5 in Indianapolis at 1 p.m. A team send-off is planned for Wednesday, April 1 at 1:30 p.m. outside of Finis Horne Arena.
As the team prepares for its final game of the season, they won’t be alone. The entire campus and community will be cheering them on.
Sunday’s game will stream on CBS Sports and Paramount Plus.
