The community is invited to join the Department of Music at Lander University for the Fall 2025 Faculty Recital, featuring pianist Amy Blackwood, violinist Catherine Culp Hazan and clarinetist Dr. Jeremy Ruth. The recital will take place Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium on the Lander campus. This event is free and open to the public.
Amy Blackwood is lecturer of music, collaborative pianist, and director of the chamber orchestra. She teaches music appreciation, is the string area coordinator, and works with singers, instrumentalists and the two choral ensembles – University Singers and Old Main Singers. She earned a Master of Music in Accompanying and Chamber Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Blackwood has spent summers at Interlochen, performed at Carnegie Hall with the National Wind Ensemble, and actively collaborates with members of symphonies in Greenville, Augusta and Charlotte.
Violinist Catherine Culp Hazan holds degrees from Converse College and the Catholic University of America, where she studied with Robert Gerle, as well as a performance certificate from the University of South Carolina under William Terwilliger. She also received instruction from David Kim, Joey Corpus and Paul Kantor at the Aspen Music Festival. She is currently a tenured member of the Greenville Symphony and the South Carolina Philharmonic, performs regularly with the Charleston Symphony, and teaches at Newberry College and Lander University. She performs on a Georges Chanot violin from 1856.
Dr. Jeremy Ruth is an assistant professor of music at Lander where he coaches the Lander woodwind ensemble. Ruth teaches applied clarinet lessons, music history, music appreciation and History of Rock n’ Roll. Ruth holds both the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from Arizona State University and the Bachelor of Music degree from Boise State University.
