Fishermen at the fifth annual Dean Peeples Memorial Scholarship Tournament may have faced tough conditions, but five teams powered through and came out on top.
The tournament supports the Dean Peeples Fishing and Wrestling Scholarship, which provides annual scholarships to students on Lander’s fishing and wrestling team from South Carolina.
This year’s tournament on Lake Greenwood raised $6,000 for the scholarship fund. The Dean Peeples Foundation is already seeking sponsors for next year’s tournament, set for September 19, 2026.

The tournament is held each year in memory of Dean Peeples, the son of Lander University employees Douglas “Skeeter” and Jamie Davis Peeples, who died in 2020 in a drowning accident. Skeeter said the family is blessed to have all the supporters behind them and the goal for next year’s tournament is to make it even better than the last.
