While inclement weather forced the community concert planned by Lander University and Uptown Greenwood to relocate from Lander's front lawn to the Grier Student Center, it didn't stop the hefty crowd of students and members of the community from attending the event on Friday, Aug. 23.

The concert featured music from Oferle, a pop/country trio based out of Nashville, Tenn., and a special opening performance by Jacob Mitchell, a senior music student at Lander. It was just one of many partnerships between Lander and The City of Greenwood planned to take place over the course of the 2019/20 academic year.

"One of our goals is to continue fostering our relationship with The City of Greenwood by collaborating on both education and social events throughout the year," said Demario Watts, Director of Student Activities at Lander. "By strengthening this relationship, it will open more opportunities for awareness of what both Lander and Greenwood have to offer and provide new and innovative ways to increase engagement."

Members of the community will have the chance to visit Lander's campus once again on Friday, August 30, for a special visit from the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales. The "Gentle Giants," as they are often called, will be harnessed and hitched to the iconic red beer wagon at the new fountain and green space on Willson St. They will then host a parade at 7:00 p.m. on Lander's campus. This event is sponsored by Lander University Athletics, and is free and open to the public.
