The smooth tones of saxophone accompanied by strings and percussion are expected to enchant audiences on Tuesday, September 19 when Lander University kicks off its Fine Arts Series featuring Dr. Robert Gardiner on sax.
Dr. Gardiner, professor of music and conductor of the Lander Jazz Ensemble, will be accompanied on-stage by guest artists Amos Hoffman on guitar; Dustin Retzlaff on bass; and Danny Boozer on drums.
A native of Columbia, SC, Dr. Gardiner has performed with a wide array of ensembles over the past 20 years, encompassing different styles of music including jazz, classical, top 40, rhythm and blues, and salsa. Leader of the Robert Gardiner Jazz Quartet and founder of the Columbia Jazz Orchestra, the talented saxophonist has shared the stage with well-known artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Four Tops, Tommy Dorsey, and the Charleston Symphony.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. inside the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium and is open to the community at no cost. The program is approved for Lander students seeking FALS-credit.
