For the second consecutive year, Lander University has been recognized as a "Military Friendly School" by Victory Media.
"We are excited and proud to be recognized for our pact with those who have selflessly served this great nation. A crucial part of that pact is to provide help to veterans and their families during the transition from soldier to student and eventually to university graduate," said Chris Giles, director of Lander's Office of Military and Veteran Services.
The Military Friendly School ratings were first published in 2009. Provided to service members and their families, the publication serves as a powerful resource in helping them select the best university, college or trade school to complete their education and training to pursue a career in the civilian sector.
The ratings are based on a number of assessments, including thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
Recognitions A Result of Veterans Initiative
Lander's recognition as a Military Friendly School comes on the heels of the university being named a Yellow Ribbon Program school by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in July. That program is specifically designed to help students avoid having to pay out-of-pocket expenses for tuition and fees by allowing the university and the Department of Veterans Affairs to fund - partially or fully - the costs of a college education.
Both recognitions are direct results of a strategic veterans initiative launched by the university upon the beginning of Dr. Richard Cosentino's tenure as Lander president.
The initiative includes a dedicated veterans resource center where student veterans can study or relax as they connect with their fellow student veterans. It also includes commitments to provide advising and direction on all educational benefits, enrollment and registration assistance, and academic and career assistance.
