Fourth Annual ‘Lily Luncheon’ to Benefit Honors Scholarship at Lander University

lily luncheon graphicThe Lander University Alumni Association will hold its fourth annual Lander Lily Scholarship Luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016. The event will take place beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Lander Foundation and Alumni Center, located at 302 Hampton St. in Greenwood.

Myra Greene, director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving, said the term "Lander Lily" has been used by female students since the early days of the university, which was founded in 1872 as Williamston Female College, and it continued over the years.

Lander junior chemistry major Meg Lacombe, of Beaufort, recipient of the 2016-17 Lander Lily Honors Scholarship, will serve as the luncheon speaker, and entertainment will be provided by Amy Blackwood and Laura Riddle, of Lander's College of Arts and Humanities, along with Greene.

The luncheon is open to the public, and Lander alumnae are encouraged to attend and bring members of the community to assist exceptional students with scholarship funds. Proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction held during the luncheon will benefit the Lander Lily Honors Scholarship, which is awarded to students in the university's Honors College.

Tickets are $25 per person, or $200 per table of eight, and may be purchased at the Lander Foundation and Alumni Center or online at http://go.lander.edu/lily. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the Alumni Affairs Office at 864-388-8351.

Greene also encouraged alumnae who are unable to attend the luncheon to contribute to the Lander Lily Honors Scholarship by sending a donation to the Lander Alumni Affairs Office, Lander University, 320 Stanley Ave., Greenwood, S.C., 29649.
