S.C. Supreme Court Justice Will Be the Main Speaker at April 30 Commencement

john fewJustice John C. Few of the South Carolina Supreme Court will be the main speaker when Lander University conducts its spring commencement on Saturday, April 30.

Approximately 285 students will receive their degrees during the ceremony, which will be held in the Finis Horne Arena on campus.

Few was born in Anderson and grew up in Greenwood, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1981. He graduated from Duke University and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1988. After more than 10 years in private law practice, he was named as a trial judge on the South Carolina Circuit Court. In 2010, he became the chief judge of the S.C. Court of Appeals.

In February of this year, the legislature elected him to fill a vacant position as a justice of the Supreme Court.

Few also teaches law courses, having held positions on the faculty of the National Judicial College in Nevada; the Charleston School of Law, which awarded him an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 2012, and most recently the University of South Carolina School of Law.
