Lander University's chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society has 45 new members. The students, who were recently honored at induction ceremonies on campus, are seniors who rank in the top 10 percent of their class.

For the second year in a row, Lander's Alpha Chi, itself, is one of 50 chapters nationwide and the only one in South Carolina to earn the designation as a Star Chapter for meeting several criteria. It was chartered in 1957 as the first chapter established in the state.

Lander Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Dr. David Mash described the inductees as "impressively accomplished students who have distinguished themselves in every discipline and major on campus, and who have won awards and scholarships in every major."

At the ceremony, philosophy professor and chapter coordinator Dr. John Moore led the students in affirming the society's pledge to uphold the purposes of the organization, and to strive to make its ideals their ideals in scholarship and in service. The students received Alpha Chi cords, symbolizing their accomplishments, from the deans and other representatives of Lander's four colleges.
