Construction on the Final Phase of Lander's Main Entrance is Underway

entrance---finished-design-TN.jpgWork has begun on a project to redesign the layout of Lander University's main entrance. A new access road is under construction leading from the intersection of Crews and Willson streets, circling around past the Carnell Learning Center, Abney Cultural Center, Chandler PEES Building and Horne Arena, and reconnecting with Willson Street near the arena driveway.

The project will have an impact on pedestrian and vehicle traffic near the construction site. Students, faculty, staff and visitors are encouraged to be patient and to use caution when traveling in that area.

For reference, a printable Campus Construction Detour Map, detailing the construction zone and alternate pathways, can be found here.

The work site is fenced off and other significant changes include:

The Visitor's Parking Lot (next to Carnell Learning Center) is closed; visitor parking is now located in the lot on the left side of Lander's main entrance boulevard, near Willson Street. Campus visitors may also obtain a visitor parking pass from the Lander University Police Department permitting parking in other lots on campus. The police department is located in Genesis Hall; visitors should take Willson Street toward Chipley Hall, then make a right turn at the access road just before entering the Chipley Hall parking area.

  • Drop-off and pick-up for Lander's shuttle bus service is temporarily relocated to the circle drive in front of Chipley Hall.
  • Commuters walking to and from parking lots on Willson Street, and students walking to and from Brookside, Thomason and Lide residence halls, must detour around the construction site using alternate campus walkways.
    • Pedestrians from Willson Street parking lots and Lide Residence Hall:
Follow sidewalks along Willson Street toward Chipley Hall, and use the walkways beside Barratt Hall to access the Learning Center, Cultural Center and plaza.
    • Pedestrians from Thomason, Brookside and Lide residence halls:
Follow sidewalks behind Horne Arena, then take the pathway leading to the PEES Building front entrance (doors closest to the construction). Follow the indoor corridor and directional signage, then exit the building and follow the pathway to the Abney Cultural Center/Grier Student Center entrance.

Please refer to the Campus Construction Detour Map for more details. Important construction updates and additional information will be posted to the Lander website and on campus announcement TV screens.
