Members of Lander University's cheerleading squad and dance team have returned home with two trophies they earned at the national championships in Daytona, Fla., in early April.
The cheerleading team took third place in the Challenge Cup competition, finishing less than seven points behind the winner and second-place finisher. Kim Schoolfield, Lander's spirit coordinator and head cheer and dance coach, said the cheer team scored a perfect 10 in two categories.
The dance team finished fourth in the Challenge Cup, scoring a perfect 10 in one category.
Schoolfield said the competition drew more than 7,000 athletes representing 350 schools from across the country. She added, "This was an incredible opportunity for our girls. They worked extremely hard to perfect their skill, and qualify for the event."
