Lander Honors Top College of Education Scholars at Annual Awards Ceremony

More than 50 Lander University students were recently honored for their scholastic accomplishments during the 2012-13 academic year, receiving the top academic discipline and special awards from the university's four colleges. The awards were presented during Lander's annual Academic Awards ceremony, held at the conclusion of the spring semester.

Receiving discipline awards from the College of Education were:

  • Sydney Wolfe, of Statham, Ga., Athletic Training Award;
  • Sabrina Garrison, of Greenwood, Early Childhood Education Award;
  • Jennifer Harrelson, of Moncks Corner, Elementary Education Award;
  • Justin Magnuson, of Swansea, Exercise Science Award;
  • Sandra Wade, of York, Graduate Education Award;
  • Anna Bowen, of Williamston, Physical Education Award;
  • Susan McIntyre, of Abbeville, Psychology Award;
  • David Coats, of Ware Shoals, Secondary Education Award; and
  • Brittany Smith, of Anderson, Special Education Award.

Receiving special awards from the College of Education were:

  • Denee Battle, of Eastover, Outstanding Departmental Services Award, presented by the Department of Psychological Sciences to students who demonstrated outstanding leadership in service activities for the department;
  • Portia Fernandez, of Richlands, N.C., Outstanding Departmental Services Award;
  • Joshua Watt, of Piedmont, Outstanding Departmental Services Award, and the Psi Chi Undergraduate Research Award, given annually by psychology faculty to one or more psychology majors who have demonstrated outstanding ability in conducting an independent research project; and
  • Jordan Coates, of Greenville, Psi Chi Undergraduate Research Award.
