Greenwood Lander Performing Arts will raise the curtain on its 66th season with a performance by Dailey & Vincent, described by music critics as the "hottest band in bluegrass." The duo and the four members of their band will take the stage of the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium at Lander University on Monday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent began their careers together in 2007 and, in the years following, they have accumulated an impressive array of awards, including the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) entertainers of the year and vocal group of the year three years in a row, from 2008 to 2010.
In 2011, they took home seven awards from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association. They included bluegrass band of the year, entertaining group of the year, album of the year, vocal group of the year and gospel group of the year. Dailey was named male vocalist and Vincent bass fiddle performer of the year.
They also received a Grammy nomination for best country performance by a duo or group with vocals plus a GMA Dove Award nomination for best bluegrass album, "Singing from the Heart."
Dailey's career began when he appeared with family and regional groups in Tennessee and Kentucky. He gained national attention as the lead singer and guitarist with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, which won 13 IBMA awards during his years with the group. He has recorded with Dolly Parton and appeared on five Gaither Homecoming productions.
Darrin Vincent was 6 years old when he joined his family's band, The Sally Mountain Show. His sister is Rhonda Vincent, the award-winning bluegrass singer and songwriter, who appeared at Lander during the 2006 GLPA season and again in 2009 as part of the Festival of Flowers celebration. For more than 10 years, Darrin Vincent was a member of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder as a vocalist and guitar and mandolin player. He has also recorded with Dolly Parton, Nora Jones, Emmylou Harris and others. They are also frequent guests on The Grand Ole Opry.
Dailey & Vincent's GLPA appearance is co-sponsored by Elliott Davis, LLC; Lakelands Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic; and Park Sterling Bank. GLPA is also funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Tickets may be obtained by calling the GLPA office at 864-388-8326. Prices are $30 for adults and $25 for youth under 18 years of age.
GLPA Executive Director Cecily Ferguson said season passes are still available for all five shows in the 2012-2013 lineup. Season ticket holders receive priority seating, invitations to special events and a custom Tervis Tumbler decorated with a GLPA logo. Season passes are $165; $150 for senior citizens and $140 for those under 18.
