Lander to Dedicate Its New Baseball Stadium to Honor Longtime Greenwood Businessman

Steve DolnyAn important part of Lander University's homecoming week celebration will occur on Friday, Feb. 3, with the dedication of the Stephen B. Dolny Baseball Stadium on the grounds of the university's Jeff May Complex on Montague Avenue. The dedication will be held almost five years to the day after Dolny's death from cancer at age 72.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dolny graduated from the State University of New York. He worked for General Electric for 37 years and had a broad range of management experience. He and his wife, Linda Latham Dolny, a 1969 Lander graduate, were principles in PML Associates, a Greenwood leadership training and labor relations consulting firm which she founded.

Dolny was a longtime supporter of Lander. In addition to the four endowed scholarships he and his wife established at the university, Dolny served on the Lander Foundation Board of Trustees and was a past member of Lander's Board of Visitors. They also have sponsored, for many years, the annual South Carolina Scholastic Arts program at Lander, which attracts thousands of entries from young artists across the state.

Currently a member of the university's Board of Trustees, Linda Dolny served on the advisory board of Lander's Department of Business Administration and Board of Trustees of the Lander Foundation. In 2004, the university awarded the Dolnys honorary doctor of humane letters degrees to recognize their many contributions to Lander and the community.

The stadium dedication, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., will be followed by the Lander baseball team's season opener against Newberry College.
