Lander Students to Thank Scholarship Donors at Annual Teal Scholarship Banquet

On Thursday, Nov. 10, Lander University students who have received scholarships from The Lander Foundation will have the opportunity to meet the donors who made the scholarships possible, as the university and community gather for the annual Eleanor Shiflet Teal Scholarship Banquet.

The dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Lander's Horne Arena.

Don Durden, of Elberton, Ga., Stephen Graves, of Greenwood and Samantha Seawright, of Donalds, three scholarship recipients, will describe for dinner guests how the scholarships have impacted their lives and experiences at Lander.

Durden, a senior business administration major with an accounting emphasis, is a Presidential Ambassador, vice president of the Blue Key National Honor Society chapter, a member of the Alpha Chi honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for business students, and a member of Lander's Professional Business Society.

Graves is also a senior majoring in business but with a health care management emphasis. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Chi honor societies and a member of the university's Professional Business Society.

Seawright is a senior secondary mathematics major. A Lander Teaching Fellow and member of the Teaching Fellows Council, she is a representative of the College of Science and Mathematics in the Student Government Association for this academic year. She is also a member of the Alpha Chi and Blue Key honor societies.

"Our three student speakers are representative of the many students who receive support from the Lander Foundation," said Ralph Patterson, vice president for University Advancement and executive director of The Lander Foundation. "Donors' current and future support has helped and will continue to make a college education affordable for thousands of Lander students such as these."
