"Bearcat Buddies" to Take Center Court during Cheer and Dance Clinic at Lander University

Youth from across the region will have the opportunity to show their spirit while making new friends at the Bearcat Buddy Cheer and Dance Clinic, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, at Lander University's Sproles Recreation Center.

The clinic is open to ages 3-12, and participants will work with Lander Cheerleaders and the Bearcat Dance Team to learn choreographed routines, cheers and dances. The group will perform at halftime during the Lady Bearcats basketball game, which begins at 1:30 p.m. that day. Participants will receive a "Bearcat Buddy" T-shirt and poms, and a pregame lunch will be provided during the daylong event.

Kim Schoolfield, Lander cheerleading coach, said the clinic is a great opportunity for young girls to have fun while building their athleticism and self-confidence. "It's an empowering experience for the participants," she said. "Learning the choreography takes concentration and focus, but having the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience makes all the work worthwhile."

Registration for the Bearcat Buddy Cheer and Dance Clinic is $40, and the deadline to register is Tuesday, Dec. 1. Returning Bearcat Buddies can receive a $10 discount and children of Lander employees receive a $15 discount. A registration form and detailed clinic information can be found online at www.lander.edu/student_affairs/cheerleading or by contacting Kim Schoolfield at kschoolfield@lander.edu or 864-388-8770.
