Online Learning Resources

Online learning at Lander University is designed by highly trained faculty members to be engaging, interactive, and collaborative. All our online classes are taught in our Blackboard Learning Management system, which provides a rich array of tools for content delivery and secure student assessment.

If you enroll in a wholly online program at Lander University, you will never need to come to campus. However, if you live in our area you will be able to come to campus any time you like to take advantage of our academic support services; to enjoy any of the cultural and athletic events that take place on our campus; or to use any of our campus amenities, from our recreation facilities to our library resources.

If you are outside our local area, all the resources available to local students will be available to you online. For our remote students, we have online tutoring and other support services, online library resources, online student advising, and live-streamed campus events.

Why take online courses?

Flexibility and Convenience

Online courses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students can attend class anytime and anywhere they have Web access. Online students can work on their courses between jobs and other commitments. Whether you are a busy stay-at-home parent or a professional that simply doesn't have the time to take a course during school hours, you can find online courses and programs that work with your schedule. Another benefit of online courses is that you don't have to get dressed, get in the car, fight traffic, commute to campus and attend class. Instead, you can study in your pajamas on the couch.

Balance

Online programs let you fit classes into your busy schedule making it easier to keep up with work, family, and social life. Online students have the ability to plan their study time around the rest of their day instead of the other way around. You can read announcements, access notes, review assignments, and participate in online discussions anytime you want. Other than meeting certain due dates, you make your own schedule for completing the requirements of the course. All of this makes online courses a good fit for students who need to balance their education with other commitments.

Reduced Cost

Attending online courses eliminates the need to pay for childcare and expenses related to traveling back and forth to campus. These savings can make a major impact on your overall education expenses. For many students, it is necessary to continue working while in school. Taking online courses allows working students to continue their education without having to sacrifice a paycheck.

Real World Skills

When you complete an online program at Lander University, not only will you have the knowledge employers are looking for, you will also have desirable real-world skills to add to your resumé. Online courses help you to become more self-disciplined, to develop time-management skills, and provide the opportunity to become effective with new communication technologies. Online courses require the development of new computer skills as students learn to navigate the learning management system, create and share documents and find information online. The skills students learn in order to participate in their online courses translate to many professions and are highly valued by today's employers.

What you need to know

Students in online courses and programs need to have reliable high speed Internet access and reasonably up-to-date computer equipment. Lander University provides a list of recommended computer specifications.  Some academic programs may have other computer requirements that differ from the basic university recommendations. When this is the case, the academic departments involved will provide that information. Some online courses may require specific computer equipment such as webcams, microphones, or similar types of supplementary devices. When this is the case, such equipment requirements will be clearly communicated to students at the beginning of the semester.

Support Resources

Online students are entitled to all the same support resources that are available to on-campus students, and all our support systems are equipped to accommodate students who do not have access to our physical campus.
