At Lander, students have scores of opportunities to display the practical skillsets they develop alongside their faculty members. The Department of Media and Design’s annual Digital Media Showcase, held Monday, April 27, highlighted the final projects of dozens of students majoring in digital media production, media and communication, graphic design and other programs.
In addition to showing off their work – which included audio, video, animation, video game design and stock motion projects – many students also provided short reflections that offered a glimpse behind the scenes of their creative process. Students shared what they learned along the way, what worked for them and what obstacles they overcame during production.
The final products featured were not always perfect cuts. Yet, that isn’t necessarily the goal of the showcase, according to the department’s faculty. Rather, the annual event allows students to take pride in the media they produced over the course of the academic year – often with the regular academic pressures of short deadlines and balancing other classes. All of the featured projects, according to Assistant Professor of Digital Media Dr. Walter Iriarte, show that Lander’s students are making progress in developing in-demand skillsets.
“Our program has produced some of the best media creators in the region,” said Iriarte. “It’s incredibly rewarding each year when we see our students take full ownership of their creative process. Our showcase allows our entire department – professors and students alike – to step back from the classroom and take pride in the tangible work we’ve produced over the past year.”
