The community is invited to join the Department of Music at Lander University for the annual Piano Ensemble concert held Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium at Lander University. This event is free and open to the public.
In the Lander Piano Ensemble, students have opportunities to play duets (two pianists at one piano), piano duos (two pianists at two pianos) and quartets (four pianists at two pianos). Each spring, the ensemble presents a recital centered around a different theme. Recent performances have featured top hits from the 1950s through today, classical piano ensemble repertoire by women composers, songs from Broadway musicals and theme music from television and movies.
The Piano Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Robert Kelley, a professor of music at Lander who teaches music theory, composition, piano and world music. He earned a Bachelor of Music in piano performance and music theory, with honors, from Furman University; a Master of Music in piano performance and music composition from James Madison University; and a Ph.D. in music theory from Florida State University.
Kelley's wide-ranging scholarship includes published compositions, performances as a pianist and harpsichordist, and research in music theory, digital musicology, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
