Lander University Wind Ensemble to Perform

Lander University invites the Greenwood and Lander communities to join the Lander University Wind Ensemble for the second performance of the 2025-26 academic year Thursday, Nov. 20. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

As America celebrates the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, the theme for this concert builds upon the ensemble’s last performance, which featured music by British composers. This next concert will include selections from French composers, commemorating the assistance France gave the United States during the Revolutionary War. The ensemble has chosen popular music from the opera Carmen, by Bizet, and from the musical Les Miserables, along with other notable French works. The concert will conclude with a dash of holiday spirit by performing “A Christmas Festival,” by Leroy Anderson.

The Lander University Wind Ensemble is the premier instrumental concert ensemble at Lander University. The group is under the direction of Dr. Reed Gallo, chair of the Department of Music. He is also the director of bands and professor of trumpet. Gallo studied with Ron Romm, a founding member of the Canadian Brass, and many top orchestra performers. He has performed on solo tours in Europe, including the Kmoch Festival in Prague, and Southeast Asia.
