Bearcat Babble: Lander Students Share Undergraduate Research at Annual SAMLA Conference

While Lander University encourages its students to travel far, sometimes educational opportunities are just a couple of hours away. This past weekend, students of the Department of Communication and Languages at Lander attended the South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) annual conference to present their research.

The theme for this year’s conference was knowledge. SAMLA focuses on exploration, transmission and production of knowledge in humanities through all mediums. Taking place in Atlanta, Lander students presented papers on a wide variety of topics, from Shakespeare to monsters to science fiction. These students, enrolled in Lander’s “Research in English” courses, have worked all semester toward their projects under the guidance of Dr. Rachel Scoggins, assistant professor of English at Lander. As a professor of courses in undergraduate research, Scoggins aims to help increase student participation in opportunities beyond the classroom, such as conferences like SAMLA.
