Lander University and Self Regional Healthcare have selected 14 top-performing nursing students for the 2025-26 cohort of the Self Regional Scholars Program. Self Regional hosted a banquet for the incoming Self Scholars Thursday, Sept. 25, where they met with Self Regional officials and learned more about working for the health care provider.

“The Self Scholars at Lander University represent the pinnacle of dedication, service and academic excellence found in our School of Nursing,” said Dr. Holisa Wharton, dean of the College of Nursing, Human Performance and Health Sciences. “This incredible opportunity would not be possible without the unwavering support and generosity of Self Regional Healthcare. Their partnership is invaluable, and we offer our deepest thanks for their commitment to fostering the next generation of health care leaders.”

Founded in 2022, the Self Regional Scholars Program is a highly sought-after scholarship offered annually to Lander’s highest performing nursing students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, community involvement and career potential, among other characteristics. Preference is given to students from the following counties: Greenwood, Laurens, Edgefield, Abbeville, McCormick, Newberry and Saluda.

The program is the product of a monumental, endowed gift from Self Regional to help address the growing need for highly trained nurses in the health care industry. In exchange, Self Scholars agree to one year of employment at Self Regional after graduation from Lander. The program is part of Self Regional’s efforts to continue to be a health care provider of choice in South Carolina.
