Lander Introduces College of Nursing, Human Performance and Health Sciences

Lander University started the fall semester with newly restructured academic colleges, including the College of Nursing, Human Performance and Health Sciences. The strategic merging of programs under the newly formed college will further Lander’s goals toward preparing students for the workforce and enhancing academic collaboration.

“Bringing together nursing, exercise science, and public health under the College of Nursing, Human Performance and Health Sciences (CNHPHS) creates significant opportunities for alignment, innovation and strategic program growth that advances the mission of Lander University and addresses several of the University's strategic initiatives,” said Dr. Holisa Wharton, dean of the college.

“The CNHPHS is poised to directly address South Carolina's growing need for qualified nurses and health professionals -- reinforcing the University's role as a key contributor to regional health care workforce development and community impact. Through growing scholarship programs, advanced facilities and robust partnerships, the CNHPHS will improve student retention, boost academic reputation, develop new programs and attract high-performing students and faculty.”

The college’s new structure is made up of three key academic disciplines at Lander.

The School of Nursing will continue building on 70 years of being a trusted educator of nurses in the Greenwood area and beyond. Dr. Julie Crawford leads the School of Nursing as assistant dean.

The Department of Exercise Science and Human Performance is also under the college and is led by department chair Dr. Jeff Barfield.

The Public Health program is also housed in the college, training professionals to improve the health of our communities. Dr. Claire Mensack is the program coordinator for Public Health.
