Calling their first year “a super important time,” Lander University President Richard Cosentino welcomed freshman students to campus during the third annual Lander Launch event.
The Lander Launch, which included faculty and staff cheering students as they filed into Finis Horne Arena, is a steppingstone to the future. “Your four years are the most important time,” Cosentino said, noting that the time will provide them with the education to launch their careers and establish the foundation for their futures. “You will be successful. Hundreds of people and millions of dollars are invested in our students.”
Cosentino encouraged students to use their first year “to level up” and take advantage of the resources that are available for success, including the University’s Student Success Center, Writing Lab and Office of Workforce and Career Development, as well as meeting with faculty and advisors who can shape their academic journeys.
The first year also lays the groundwork for students to move out of their comfort zone and explore a new world of opportunities, said Anaiah Bruckner, a first-generation college student from Simpsonville.
“You will find support to help you grow as a student and as a person,” said Bruckner, a sophomore who earned President’s List academic honors as a freshman. “Everyone’s journey is individual.”
For Dr. Amanda Darden, Lander’s vice president for student experience and quality assurance, the Lander Launch officially confirmed students as members of the Bearcat family. “We are here to cheer you on, and at graduation we will be here to cheer you out into your future.”
