As students, families and Move-In Day volunteers hauled luggage, totes, microfridge units and pillows – and everything in between – into Lander University’s residence halls, the quality of the student experience and academic programs scored high marks among freshmen looking ahead to the academic year.
Aliya Dial, of Anderson, a nursing major who also has an interest in studying forensic science, said the chance to become a member of Lander’s student organizations and join a sorority were among the factors she considered when making her college decision.
“These opportunities will teach me about life and give me important life lessons,” she said.
Noah Patterson, of Simpsonville, said being part of the Future Teacher Academy at Fountain Inn High School helped her accumulate more than 200 hours in school classrooms before coming to college. “When I looked at colleges and universities, I realized that Lander’s College of Education was the only one that allows freshman education majors to go into schools as part of our educational experience.”
The freshman worked with students in first, fourth and seventh grades as a high school student. That foundational experience of being in the classroom was a deciding factor in choosing to pursue an elementary education major at Lander. “I can’t wait to be a teacher,” Patterson said.
