A report from the South Carolina Institute on the Prevention of Sexual Violence on College Campuses (SCIP) examines measures being taken statewide to protect college students.

Dr. Matthew Hammett, executive director of SCIP, recently discussed the institute’s inaugural report, “Empower Change through Education,” at a meeting of the state’s Commission on Higher Education.

The 2024-25 document details education and prevention programs, as well as policy training initiatives, at colleges and universities throughout the Palmetto State. “It is a crucial step forward in capturing what our higher education institutions offer on their campuses through an educational lens,” Hammett said.

SCIP, chartered at Lander in 2022, was the vision of Lander President Richard Cosentino, who worked with the General Assembly to secure funding for the institute, which Gov. Henry McMaster then authorized.
