Lander University hosted Singing for Supper on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 20 in the Dingle Amphitheatre. Singing for Supper is an initiative that precedes the Music for Meals benefit concert and featured three artists’ performances, all of whom will also perform as openers during Music for Meals.
Both Singing for Supper and the corresponding Music for Meals event are aimed at addressing food insecurity on Lander’s campus.
Lander students Dennis Perry, of Barnwell; Emma Grace Avant, of Simpsonville; and Jonah Mullinax, of Ninety Six, performed for the crowd Thursday. In addition to performing, each student was responsible for raising money for the University’s Bear Necessities Food Pantry. More than $550 was raised between the three students before the night of the performance.
Each student will serve as opening acts for Music for Meals on the evening of Oct. 29 at the Lander Equestrian Center. In addition to the student musicians, the Emerald Empire Band will be performing. Tickets can be bought through Eventbrite.com, and each ticket includes all-you-can-eat BBQ and oysters.
