College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Recognizes Student Achievements

Lander University's College of Behavioral and Social Sciences held its honors and awards program on Tuesday, Apr. 13, at the Jean Tribble McFerrin Amphitheater located behind Laura Lander Hall.

"These student award recipients represent the best among Lander's student body," said Dr. Lucas McMillan, dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. "They have excelled in the classroom, in presenting their own research at conferences, and in making meaningful contributions to campus life."

 

Awards and scholarships from the Department of Government, Criminology and Sociology

Criminology students who received scholarships and awards include Sydney Stanley, of Elgin, recipient of the Walter Lanier Gorham Scholarship; Brayden Stevens, of Greenwood, and Robert Marquez, of Silver City, N.M., both recipients of the Lewis M. Morgan Scholarship; Marcus Green, recipient of the Robert S. Mueller III Scholarship; and Emily Hernandez, of Greenville, recipient of the Criminology Discipline Award.

Students who received political science scholarships and awards include Courtney Clavel, of Bluffton, recipient of the Robbie Barnes Scholarship; Elemia Crankfield, of Conway, recipient of the Bill and Emily Bradford Scholarship and the Alan Jones Award; JaQuan Ragin, of Greenwood, recipient of the William J. Bryan Dorn Scholarship; Noah Longest, of Millville, Del., recipient of the Louise Willing McMullin Scholarship; JaDasia Mitchell, of Summerville, recipient of the Pearl Modica Scholarship; Jania Clinkscales, of Central, recipient of the Rob and Angela Strickland Scholarship; Maggie May, of Moore, and JaDasia Mitchell, of Summerville, both recipients of the W. D. Tinsley Scholarship; James Hawthorne, of Pelzer, recipient of the International Studies Award; Jake Powell, of Greer, recipient of the Political Science Discipline Award; and Daniel Odom, of Taylorsville, N.C., recipient of the Public Administration Award.

Sociology students who received scholarships and awards include Madison Coxwell, of Goose Creek, Alisha Lark, of Beech Island, and Candiea Whitfield, of Anderson, all recipients of the Dr. Maybelle Coleman Scholarship; Veronica Orndoff, of Greenwood, recipient of the Government, Criminology and Sociology Scholarship; Tyra Cason, of Greenwood, recipient of the Greenwood Vocational Rehabilitation Advisory Board Scholarship; Emily Hernandez, of Greenville, recipient of the Display of Outstanding Sociological Imagination Award; Sarah Crews, of North Augusta, recipient of the Sociology Discipline Award; and Brooke Tipton, of North Augusta, recipient of the Non-Profit Management Award.

 

Awards and scholarships from the Department of History and Philosophy

History students who received scholarships and awards include Alayna Harding, of Boiling Springs, Anna Henriksen-Shea, of Effort, Penn., and Emily Rodriguez, of Walhalla, all recipients of the Mary Neel Baker Scholarship; Cameron Pate-Addie, of Pelzer, recipient of the Dr. Gilbert Sumter Guinn Scholarship and the Murrell J. Huckabee Scholarship; Macy Gault, of Gaffney, and Thomas Histon, of Greenville, both recipients of the Barbara Jackson Scholarship; Kaylee Baggott, of Moncks Corner, and Emily Banks, of Taylors, both recipients of the William T. Lander, Jr. Scholarship; Sidney Bush, of Chapin, and Grayson Peoples, of Clinton, both recipients of the Dr. William Ricketson Scholarship; Abigail Connelly, of Aiken, and Macy Gault, both recipients of the W. D. Tinsley Scholarship; Haylie Pavelzik, of Anderson, recipient of the E. Don Herd Jr. Scholarship; Jacob Socha, of Rock Hill, recipient of the Dr. John Marvin Rast Scholarship; Maddie Hudlow, of Greenwood, recipient of the Barbara A. Jackson Award; Macy Gault, recipient of the Margaret M. Bryant Award; and Gemma Perez, of Simpsonville, recipient of the History Discipline Award.

Recipient of the Philosophy Discipline Award is Abigail Mudd, of Abbeville.

 

Awards from the Department of Military Science

Students receiving Army ROTC Awards include Cadet Brian Murphy, of Beaufort, recipient of the Col. James A. Lander Award; and Cadet Thaddeus Williams, of Chester, recipient of the Lt. Col. Walter Roark Award.

 

Awards and scholarships from the Department of Psychological Science and Human Services

Psychology students receiving scholarships and awards include Morgan Ferqueron, of Hodges, recipient of the Dr. William T. Martin Scholarship; Paige Kaiser, of Leesville, recipient of the Greenwood Vocational Rehabilitation Advisory Board Scholarship; Cassidy Pridemore, of Buffalo, recipient of the Outstanding Departmental Service Award; Marcus Green, recipient of the Outstanding Initiative in Experiential Learning in Psychology Award; Chelsea Davis, of Lexington, Morgan Ferqueron, and Sara Gray, of Newberry, all recipients of the Psi Chi Undergraduate Research Awards; and Abigail Mudd, of Abbeville, recipient of the Psychology Award.

 

College Awards

In addition to the departmental scholarships and awards, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences also presented Dean's Awards to Makaylyn Helms, of Fort Mill, Gemma Perez, of Simpsonville, and Jake Powell, of Greer.

The editorial team of New Voices, Lander's student literary journal, selected the essay "Something Else," by nursing major Christina Aguayo for the Race and Identity Special Recognition Award. Aguayo's essay will appear in its upcoming issue. The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences presented this award as sponsor of Lander's Race and Identity Dialogue series.

Dr. Joe Camp, adjunct professor of history, and Melissa Mayo, adjunct professor of emergency management, were named part-time faculty members of the year.
