Dr. Leslie MacTaggart Myers, associate professor of nursing in Lander University's William Preston Turner School of Nursing, has received The Mary Frances Poole Alston Award, which is presented to a faculty or staff member who provides visibility for Lander throughout the state of South Carolina, the United States and the world.
Before joining Lander's nursing faculty in 2005, Myers was a staff nurse at Self Regional Health Care's Women's Center and a partner in Mayfield, Myers & Stevenson, certified legal nurse consultants. She has a degree in nursing from Clemson University, and a master's in nursing, public/community health clinical nurse specialist, and a doctorate of nursing practice, adult nurse practitioner, both from the University of South Carolina.
Myers was Lander's Young Faculty Teaching Award winner in 2008 and the following year, she received the Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition Award presented by the S.C. Nurses Foundation for excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the nursing profession.
She assisted in organizing the first university-based Medical Reserve Corps in South Carolina. The unit provides support for emergency responders and public health agencies in the Greenwood area. She also is a volunteer in medical missions abroad organized by the nursing school.
