“Meraki” Exhibition Showcases Lander Student Artwork

Lander University students who recently traveled to Greece and Italy are showcasing their original works of art inspired by their journey in an exhibition titled "Meraki." The exhibition is on display at the Greenwood Art Center (120 Main St.) through Jan. 22.

The community is encouraged to attend a closing reception on Thursday, Jan. 21, from 5-7 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.

The students and alumni artists journeyed to Greece and Italy during the summer with Lander professors Dr. Chrystine Keener, Sandy Singletary and Elizabeth Snipes-Rochester. Upon returning, students created three original works of art inspired by their travels.

The show's title, "Meraki," is a Greek term that means being devoted fully and creatively to a task, ultimately putting something of one's self into it.

While the students were part of one common European journey, each of their creative responses is entirely unique and often very personal. As a result, the show features a variety of media (from traditional to mixed media, video, audio and installation), a wide range of scale, and diverse content.
