Students in Lander University's teacher education program recently took part in a workshop designed to sharpen their technology skills and enhance the creative techniques they will bring to the classroom as teachers.
The free workshop was conducted by Debbie Jarrett of South Carolina ETV, who shared information with students and education faculty members on the advantages of using Glogster and Digital Story Telling as teaching aids.
Cindy Hughes, coordinator of instructional technology for Greenwood's School District 50, also attended the workshop. Lander's field experience coordinator Rebecca Fernandez, who along with Dr. Michael Murphy teaches the Lander class, Instructional Technology for Teachers, said, "We wanted to work with the district to be sure that our teacher education students are technologically up-to-date when they go into the classroom."
Its creators describe Glogster as a global educational platform that provides teachers and students the technology to create online multimedia posters complete with text, photos, videos, graphics, sounds, drawings, data attachments and more.
Digital Story Telling allows users to use computer-based technology to tell stories to provide another creative outlet for learning.
Fernandez said the 46 students in the instructional technology class have also begun using Facebook to communicate with each other about issues related to their studies.
