"The Inner Critic: The Psychology of Why We Get in Our Own Way"

Presenter: Jonathan Bassett
Reception: 5:30 p.m.
Presentation: 6:00 p.m.

Have you ever wondered why people do things that sabotage, undermine, or otherwise prevent them from achieving their personal or professional goals? Maybe, like most of us, you have experienced self-critical thoughts or persistent moments of self-doubt. What motivates self-defeating behaviors and where do these self-critical thoughts come from? In this engaging, research-informed talk, you will learn about the psychological factors that contribute to cynical outlooks on other people and the world, the stressors and anxieties that intensify self-defeating thinking, and how recognizing these patterns can help us overcome these obstacles and reach our fullest potential.
