Apply

Once you have researched and selected your study abroad program, applying is a simple two-step process.

First, access the Lander Study Abroad Application form on the Lander-Via TRM site. Then, all you have to do is:

  • Find the right form: There are two application forms available, one for semester / summer programs, and one for Study Tours. Choose the one that corresponds to your preference.
  • Plan to complete the application: You do not need to complete your application in one sitting. To go back to your saved application, log into the Lander-Via TRM portal.
  • Consider the deadline: Read the application instructions and then submit all required items for a complete application by the application deadline.
  • Ensure your application is complete: Each required item will be checked off (or marked "N/A") as you complete it.
  • Submit your application: Once all items are complete, a "Submit" button will appear at the top of your application. You must click "Submit" for your application to be complete and ready for review.
    • Please note that required recommendations must be REQUESTED in order for you to click "Submit." In other words, you may submit your application even if your references haven't yet sent in their recommendations.
    • Once you click "Submit," your application will be date and time stamped, and you will receive email confirmation that your application has been received.
  • Wait for a response: The Director of Study Abroad will evaluate your application and respond to you with one of the following designations:
    • Approved: Your application has been approved by the Office of Study Abroad, and you may now continue with the application process.
    • Conditionally Approved: The conditional approval is based on missing application materials (such as a recommendation) or a question about whether your application satisfies the eligibility requirements (such as GPA). Contact the Director of Study Abroad with any questions about your conditional approval. Your application status will be updated once all conditions are met.
  • Revise and Resubmit: Your application was not approved; you will have to take further action in order to be considered. The Director of Study Abroad will be in touch with additional instructions.

Once your Lander application has been Approved, you may proceed to apply to the specific program of your choice. This will be either a Lander Study Tour, a semester or summer Lander partner program, or a semester or summer affiliate program sponsored by USAC or ASA. To apply:

  • Find the program application: Return to your program's brochure page on the Lander-Via TRM site and click "Apply Now" at the top or bottom of the page.
  • For a Study Tour, you will be redirected to a short supplemental application form that is specific to your chosen Study Tour.
  • For a semester or summer Lander partner program, you will be redirected to the application form for the host institution overseas.
  • For a semester or summer affiliate program, you will be redirected to the USAC or ASA online application page.
  • Complete the program application: Read the application instructions and then submit all required items for a complete application by the program application deadline.
  • Wait for a response: The administrators of the particular program will review your submitted application and let you know whether you have been accepted, provisionally accepted, waitlisted, or not accepted.
  • Please note: Students who are approved for a Lander Study Tour must enroll in the class that is associated with the trip if there is one. For a Winter Break or a Summer Study Tour, these classes are typically offered during the semester before the trip. For a Spring Break Study Tour, they are typically offered the semester during which the trip takes place.
