One of the First Universities in South Carolina to Offer Degrees Designed Specifically for Content Creators
Lander University announces two new program tracks for digital content creators
South Carolina employers increasingly need professionals who can create high-quality digital content and understand the strategy behind it. From small businesses and nonprofits to healthcare systems, manufacturers, tourism organizations and public agencies, organizations across the state rely on social media and digital platforms to build brands, reach the right audiences and drive measurable results.
Lander University’s new program tracks for digital content creators prepare students for this workforce demand by combining hands-on content production with a strong foundation in strategy, analytics and business fundamentals. The program serves students who want to build careers as social media influencers and digital entrepreneurs, as well as those who will manage content and social media strategy for companies and organizations.
What is Digital Content Creation?
A digital content creator is someone who uses online platforms to tell stories, build audiences and shape how ideas, products and communities connect. From podcasters and streamers to influencers, videographers, designers and social media strategists, creators sit at the center of how modern marketing, media and culture now work. Platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Twitch are not just places to post content. They are engines for influence, entrepreneurship and real economic impact.
At Lander, preparing students to become digital content creators means focusing on:
- Creative strategy and production: Developing content that is compelling, authentic and built for today’s digital platforms.
- Audience growth and engagement: Understanding analytics, community building and how to turn attention into loyalty.
- Professional skills and applied learning: Hands-on experiences that connect creativity with branding, storytelling and business goals.
- Entrepreneurship and innovation: Supporting students who want to launch their own channels, brands or creative ventures.
- Research and emerging trends: Studying how digital platforms evolve and how creators adapt and lead.
- Real-world collaboration: Working with organizations, brands and campus partners to prepare for careers in a fast-changing digital landscape.
Why This Matters Now

The creator economy is a rapidly expanding field where individuals turn creativity into careers by producing and monetizing content across social media and other digital platforms. It is changing how stories are told, how brands connect with audiences and how media is created and consumed.
According to Goldman Sachs Research:
- 67 million people globally work as full- or part-time creators.
- The creator economy could be worth nearly $500 billion by 2027.
At Lander University, preparing students to thrive in this space aligns directly with our commitment to career readiness and applied learning. Through hands-on, skills-based programs, we equip students with the creative, strategic and technical tools they need to succeed in a digital-first workforce or to launch their own ventures as entrepreneurs in a rapidly evolving economy.
