Lander Readying for First Collaborative Exhibit – Public Invited to Reception on Oct. 4

Greenwood artists of all kinds will join forces with Lander University this autumn for the school's first collaborative arts exhibit.

The new exhibit, known as Mirror Images, will be on display October 4 through November 13 in Lander's Monsanto Art Gallery, and showcase the creations of 24 area artists and four Lander students.

Participants from the Greenwood Writer's Guild will exchange works to inspire a new artistic creations from a partner: artists use their partner's writing to create a new artwork, and writers/poets use their partner's artwork to create a new piece of poetry or prose.

"Our theme for this display is art to words, words to art," said Jon Holloway, director of the Monsanto Gallery. "It's a unique opportunity for Lander to showcase artists and creative writers in the community."

A reception, scheduled to be held in the gallery from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, is open and free to the public.

The idea behind Mirror Images is to showcase the range of artistic expression and interpretation that both visual artists and writers/poets address when they create a new work. Its focus is to highlight the various ways humans inspire and influence one another as creatives.

"This is not an annual exhibit," Holloway said. "But we hope to hold something of this caliber every few years or so."
