Lander University will hold its annual Opening Convocation on Monday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m. in the university's Finis Horne Arena. A live-stream of the event will be available beginning just before 11 a.m. that morning.
Marking the official opening of the academic year, Convocation will feature special guest speakers Dr. Gina Dunn, recipient of Lander University's 2017 Distinguished Professor award; and Dr. Robert McLaren, associate director of the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii.
Members of the Lander faculty who have been recently tenured or promoted, as well as those who have recently joined the university, will be recognized during the ceremony, which is open to all Lander students and employees.
Following Convocation, the campus community is invited to participate in Lander's eclipse-related activities, scheduled to take place from noon-3 p.m. on the university's front lawn.
