Lander History Honor Society Receives Award for Excellence

The history honor society at Lander University has won Honorable Mention in competition for the Best Chapter Award among Division II colleges and universities.

The Xi-Epsilon Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta and its members were cited by the national organization for their accomplishments during the course of the previous academic year. The award is presented for exceptional activities and projects that include participation in regional and national Phi Alpha Theta events.

Chapter president Kate Boring, of Ware Shoals, said Xi-Epsilon inducted 11 new members last spring. Boring, a senior majoring in history secondary certification, is also a student teacher at Greenwood High School.

The chapter has compiled an enviable record, having won national recognition in the annual Best Chapter competition for more than 12 years.

Lander history professor Dr. Robert Figueira is the faculty adviser to Xi-Epsilon, which was chartered at Lander in 1968.
