Walking Track Set to Open at Lander's Jeff May Complex

The Capsugel Walking/Jogging Track at Lander University's Jeff May Complex is expected to open during the week of Nov. 7. Athletic director Jeff May, whose name is on the recreation, wellness and sports complex, said the public will be able to use the track at no cost.

During the fall and winter, the track will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sundays 2 to 7 p.m. The actual date of the opening will be posted on the digital sign at the entrance to the complex on Montague Avenue.

Bicycles, skateboards and other wheeled equipment will not be permitted on the track and pets will not be allowed for liability reasons. Service dogs are the only exception.

May said, "Lander is grateful to Capsugel in Greenwood for its generous support in underwriting the cost of the track."

Assistant athletic director and complex manager Steve Grogan said the track measures about eight-tenths of a mile in length and winds primarily around the perimeter of the facility. He added that its rubberized surface will make walking and jogging more comfortable.
